Emotional disorders place a significant strain on those affected. According to the World Health Organization WHO, depression is projected to become the leading cause of disease worldwide by 2030. To tackle this challenge, the Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich (PUK) is developing innovative solutions.
The global rise in emotional disorders presents major challenges for PUK. To meet the growing demand for therapy while addressing the substantial costs of psychiatric healthcare, PUK is developing a transdiagnostic therapy app that combines in-person therapy sessions with digital support.
Studies have shown that integrating a digital coach into therapy can be as effective as traditional therapy methods—often with additional benefits. Inpatient stays can be shortened, and therapy sessions can be completed more efficiently, allowing PUK to care for a larger number of patients without compromising quality.
«The therapy app has already proven effective, and we are convinced that it will bring about a paradigm shift in treating emotional disorders.»

Digital solutions for mental health are growing rapidly, yet the full potential of digital elements remains largely untapped. The new app stands out from other digital mental health services in the following ways:
Additionally, the app reinforces therapy sessions, tracks and visualizes symptom progression, and provides targeted exercises. In crisis situations, it offers reliable support. For therapists, it provides valuable insights into their patients' mental health and enables the seamless transmission of information between sessions.
Initial feasibility studies have shown promising results, offering crucial feedback for further refinement. Based on these findings, the app is now being enhanced and integrated into everyday clinical practice.
